Hospital black start and essential power testing
A hospital black start is the ability to restart the facility's own electrical supply from zero, safely and in sequence, without any power from the external grid. We plan and run black start tests with facility engineering teams: how the generators, transfer switches and UPS behave, the order in which essential loads return, and the clinical areas that must be protected throughout. It is a test we have planned and delivered on hospital sites.

Can you plan works around a live hospital?
We agree work windows, access, sequencing and required approvals with the facility and project team. Shutdowns and service changeovers are planned against the specific systems and areas affected.
What does a black start test involve?
The facility is taken off the external grid in a planned sequence and its own generators, transfer switches and UPS restore supply from zero. We agree the scope, hold points and rollback with the facility team, protect the clinical areas affected, record the timing of each stage and report the findings and any defects.
Do you deliver complete medical gas systems?
Our offer here is the electrical infrastructure, controls and alarm cabling associated with specialist plant. Medical gas equipment, pipework and specialist system commissioning are scoped separately with the responsible providers.
